Nate is one of Bench Mark Program’s greatest success stories. Since we met Nate in 2015, he has truly made a 180 degree turn in his life: from criminal activity, violence, and gunshot wounds, to trusted friend and mentor in the gym. Nate stands as an example of the potential that every student has to completely change their circumstances for the better, if only they’re willing to put in hard work and dedication.  We’re honored to be able to provide Nate with the opportunity to grow in his leadership and responsibility as an employee and mentor to other students. Nate works really hard in the gym, both with the students and the day-to-day gym operations In his new role, Nate helps to guide our student services and the direction of the organization over all. Learn more about Nate and get used to seeing him around a lot more!

1. Years at Bench Mark Program: 5 years as a mentee; 3 months as staff

2. What has been your favorite thing about being a part of Bench Mark Program?

My favorite thing about being a part of Bench Mark is being able to be part of a team that wants to help our youth become better people in our community and take skills we give them and use them in their everyday life to strengthen themselves and other people.

3. What do you hope the students can learn from you and your experiences?

What I hope kids can learn from me is to be yourself. It’s okay if you have made mistakes before. They do not define who you are, and there will always be room for progress. If you chase your dreams and conquer today, the past no longer matters.

4. Other than Bench Mark Program, what is something you’re passionate about?

I’m passionate about my family growing up and building a bond with my son Draco and my daughter Nah’Lani. Family is forever;  I want them to be able to depend on each other and myself for advice or help.
